⚡ The Great Scientific Debates

⚡ Tesla vs. Edison — The War of Currents

🔴 Thomas Edison (DC)

Edison championed Direct Current (DC) — electricity that flows in one direction. He built the first commercial power stations using DC and had a vast business empire invested in it. He staged public demonstrations electrocuting animals to "prove" AC was dangerous, seeking to scare the public away from Tesla's work.

🔵 Nikola Tesla (AC)

Tesla, backed by George Westinghouse, advocated for Alternating Current (AC) — electricity that reverses direction many times per second. AC could be transmitted over much greater distances with far less energy loss using transformers, making it economically superior for large-scale power grids.

⚖️ History's Verdict: Tesla and AC electricity won decisively. Today, virtually all homes and buildings worldwide run on AC power. The entire global electrical grid is built on Tesla's principles. Edison's DC stations could only power buildings within a mile of the generator. Tesla's genius made electrification of the modern world possible.
🌌 Newton vs. Einstein — Two Visions of Gravity

🍎 Newton's Gravity (1687)

Newton described gravity as an instantaneous force acting at a distance between masses: F = Gm₁m₂/r². This model perfectly predicted the motion of planets, moons, and falling apples. For 200+ years, it was the complete picture of reality. Newton saw space and time as fixed, absolute containers.

🌀 Einstein's Spacetime (1915)

Einstein showed gravity is not a force but the curvature of spacetime caused by mass. Space and time are a single fabric that warps around massive objects. This explained phenomena Newton couldn't: Mercury's precessing orbit, the bending of starlight by the Sun, gravitational time dilation — all confirmed experimentally.

⚖️ The Resolution: Einstein extended Newton — he did not destroy him. Newton's laws are the limit of General Relativity at low speeds and weak gravity. Engineers still use Newton's equations for satellites, bridges, and rockets. But GPS satellites require Einstein's corrections for accuracy — without relativistic adjustments, GPS would drift by miles per day. Both are correct in their domains.
⚛️ Einstein vs. Bohr — "God Does Not Play Dice"

🎲 Bohr (Copenhagen Interpretation)

Bohr and the Copenhagen school held that quantum particles don't have definite properties until measured — they exist as probability waves. Measurement itself "collapses" the wave function. The universe is fundamentally probabilistic at its core. This is still the dominant interpretation taught in physics today.

📐 Einstein (Hidden Variables)

Einstein was deeply uncomfortable with a universe governed by pure probability. He famously wrote "God does not play dice with the universe." He believed quantum mechanics was incomplete — that hidden variables existed which, if known, would restore determinism. He proposed the EPR paradox to expose quantum theory's apparent incompleteness.

⚖️ Where We Stand: Bell's theorem (1964) and subsequent experiments (Aspect, 1982) proved Einstein wrong about hidden variables — the universe really is fundamentally probabilistic at the quantum level. Quantum entanglement is real. Yet Einstein's objections drove crucial advances: quantum information theory and quantum cryptography grew directly from the EPR debate. Both giants shaped modern physics profoundly.
